Foot Condition - Rough Skin

Do you have heels that feel like “Velcro” or those are still as rough as sand paper after having them filed during a pedicure? Do you feel like you will never get the skin to feel smooth again? If this is the case, you probably have a tinea pedis or skin fungus in the callus. This is a common condition today. The usual cause of rough skin on feet is tiny micro-lesions or cracks in a callus, which cause susceptibility when coming into contact with tinea. Until this is resolved, you will never have those smooth heels again. It is important to keep calluses filed by regular pedicures.

Dry, sandpaper-like, rough skin (skin that catches) or skin prone to fungal infections can develop into very severe problems, especially for people with diabetes or atopic dermatitis. Rough skin around your heels can become so severe that it can cause deep cracks and infections. Dry feet exposed in public areas such as, unclean foot baths, unclean salons and spas can develop dry, unsightly, flaking and rough skin. Proper hydration of the rough skin on the feet can help to keep skin healthy and allow it to do its job of “protection.”

The following are some factors and conditions that can contribute to the development of rough skin on the feet, especially the heels and, less frequently, the ball of the foot, particularly under the big toe. This is where the Footlogix Rough Skin Formula helps.

ENVIRONMENT

Foot fungus such as Tinea Pedis thrives in warm, dark, or moist locations and is quite contagious. It is common to pick this up from gym floors and locker rooms, around swimming pools, and in other places where people are walking barefoot. Besides producing rough skin on the calluses, this can also occur in the form of peeling skin. See Footlogix Peeling Skin Formula.

FOOTWEAR

Shoes which do not fit properly at the heel can cause repetitive friction and pressure on the skin which in turn causes thick calluses that are susceptible to tinea pedis. Calluses are thickened areas of skin which act as a protective barrier between the skin and the external source of the force or friction.

Steel-toed work boots are very heavy and thick. The material from which they are made does not “breathe”, thus keeping the feet in a tightly confined area which becomes an ideal breeding ground for any fungus present on the foot. These calluses often turn into rough skin on the feet.

SHARING SHOES AND SOCKS

If someone in the house has tinea pedis, then sharing socks and shoes can spread the infection. The socks need to be properly washed to kill the fungus. Killing infectious organisms in shoes is more difficult, but Footlogix Shoe Fresh Deodorant Spray will assist with this.

DIABETES

People with diabetes eventually develop poor circulation in the feet. As a result, they become susceptible to infections such as tinea pedis. Foot hygiene is of utmost importance. In addition, having regular Footlogix pedicures will keep your skin healthy. Daily use of Footlogix DD Cream Mousse at night will help prevent infection.

AUTOIMMUNE CONDITIONS AND OTHER CONDITIONS WHICH COMPROMISE THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

There are many conditions that compromise the immune system thus leaving the skin more susceptible to infection. Some autoimmune conditions are: Type 1 diabetes, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis, Psoriasis, and Crohn’s Disease. Other conditions that can also compromise the immune system are cancer treatments, kidney or other transplants, HIV/AIDS, smoking, alcohol and drug abuse, poor nutrition and repeated infections such as colds and coughs. Regular professional pedicures using Footlogix products will help keep the feet healthy.

PERIPHERAL VASCULAR DISEASE (PVD)

PVD causes atherosclerosis or hardening of the arteries, which diminishes blood flow to the feet. It can take years for the walls of the arteries to harden and years for symptoms to show. Typically, the earliest signs are leg discomfort, pain and cramping, particularly when walking, but other symptoms include dry skin on the feet, cold feet and redness or pain in the feet and toes.
